#TBT WATCH: My interview with the late Rocky Mount Fire Chief Posey Dillon in 2010 on the topic of how other firefighters in the community help each other in times of need, Little would we know how true that would turn out being. I hope it brings you peace, though. This is probably the most emotional Throwback Thursday Ive ever posted, it may even bring a tear to your eye. (and tears of joy). In late April, 2010, the Rocky Mount Fire Department came together for a huge yard sale complete with music and great food to eat to benefit Owen Lewis, who had been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. Lewis, with his family standing by his side helped me talk about what the huge turnout meant to him. At the end of the interview, I had him a hug (end of the interview - so ne sure to watch the entire thing). It would be my last time seeing him. Lewis passed away a month later. At the beginning of the interview, you will instantly spot Posey Dillon, as I did that day.. I was shooting the segment by myself, and Posey spent a good half hour getting everyone assemble for the shot and help me with my equipment. At thet time, I thought it would be good to have a familiar face to so many explaining how firefighters all look out for each other. And Posey was ready to talk ;-) At one point, he even points out in the background that Danny Altice was also helping out. Its a odd, yet comforting way of seeing these brave men having such a great time. Its strange seeing Posey. Little would anyone know what changes were about to take place to most of us. Chills. Again. Listen to their words. They mean SO MUCH MORE now that we know what happened. Again... chills. Then there was my accident years later, where the Moneta Fire Department saved my life years later. They are all in heaven now, but pleas take a few minutes to watch this interview and take your time. Rest in Peace, Mr. Dillon, Mr. Altice and God Bless our Firefighers!
