TEA RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF KENYA VACANCY - CLERK OF WORKS The Tea Research Foundation of Kenya (TRFK), a state corporation, was established in 1980 to replace the former Tea Research Institute of East Africa (TRIEA) with the objects to promote research and investigate problems related to tea and such other crops and systems of husbandry as are associated with tea throughout Kenya including the productivity (yield), quality and suitability of land in relation to tea planting; and matters ancillary thereto. The TEA RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF KENYA [TRFK] has undertaken to finance the development of a small state of the art tea research and development factory at Kericho. TRFK seeks to recruit a competent and qualified individual to fill the position of Clerk of Works (CoW) to serve on contract for a period of three years:- The Role The Clerk of Works will be primarily represent the interests of TRFK in regard to ensuring that quality of materials, workmanship and quality standards are carried out in accordance with the proposed design as directed by the Lead Consultants. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Construction. 1. To confer with architects and contractors as to the preparation and interpretation of drawings and specifications; 2. To inspect all materials going into the project; 3. Confirming and approving architectural and civil/structural setting of works on site as required 4. To be responsible for the inspection of the workmanship and practices of contractors and/or crews engaged in construction; 5. To assist in interpreting provisions of contracts, drawings, specifications, and designs; 6. To ensure that construction work schedules are maintained; 7. To be responsible for continuous inspection during construction and to ensure adherence to all building codes, drawings, specification, and allocated budget; 8. To monitor the continuous inspection of workman ship, materials, and construction methods; and 9. To monitor and review the work of contractors and other personnel assigned to the construction project. • Administrative Services. 1. To interpret construction contracts and specifications prepared by the architects and contractor to ensure that all items are covered and are in agreement with the appropriate Building By-Laws requirements; 2. To review requests by the architects for changes in the drawings in accordance with delegated authority; 3. To ensure that all work is accomplished and that the materials utilized conform with the appropriate Building By Laws; 4. To be responsible for following the construction budget in conjunction with the architects and 5. To attend various meetings and submit written progress reports Requirements 1. A minimum of Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering/Building Construction or equivalent 2. 10 years at supervisory level in a busy construction site. Those with prior experience in Tea factories will have an added advantage 3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 4. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines 5. High level of integrity 6.
