TEAM KO QUARTER FINALS Horncastle A were up against another prem side at Gainsborough last night. Gainsborough are languishing towards the bottom of the table, but Horncastle turned up to find a Gainsborough team with 3 unknown Yorkshire league regulars, so this could go anywhere? 1st on was Daniel Wells, fresh from the biggest win of his career to date! Danny was up against a very experienced and wiley opponent and got drawn into playing him at his own game. The games were all very tight, but to his credit, Danny held it together when it really mattered and took the match 3 - 0, winning each game 15 - 13. Next on was captain, Gary Worley, returning from a spell of injury. He took a relatively easy 1st game, but seemed to be struggling in the second until an interesting decision from the marker sparked him back into life. Gary never looked back from there and took the match 3 - 0. On at 3rd string was Gareth (I hate playing people I dont know) Gill. Gaz started really well, taking an easy first and going 6 - 1 up in the second, but then he seemed to remember that he wasnt on court with Dom! Not sure Gaz will want to hear too much about the rest of the match, but he held it together sufficiently to take the win. At 2nd string was Graham Wallis against a young flamboyant player from Scunthorpe. Graham lost the first and looked to be in for a tough night, but seemed to have sussed his opponent out, when he took the next 2 games with ease. The 4th game was much tighter in the early stages, but Graham simply had too much and took the match 3 - 1. Last match on was Dom Price against another unknown Scunthorpe player. Dom hasnt been playing his best squash of late, but he seemed to be back on form in the first, taking it at ease, with a whole rank of taxis for his opponent. The next 2 games were much tighter and Dom sought to lose them both, quite successfully, with a string of drop shots into the tin. Dom then stepped up the pace and removed the unforced errors from his game to take the last 2 games and give the Horncastle team a 5 - 0 victory and a place in the draw for the semi finals for a 2nd successive year. NEXT A TEAM MATCH IS AT HORNCASTLE ON SATURDAY 1 FEB, 6pm start v RUSTONS E in a top of the table clash. click her for the table lincoln.leaguemanagersq/mjm/secure/?table=teams&idd=861
