TECH TIP: Changing the Oil While an oil change seems like a simple thing, tons can go wrong and you can destroy your engine if you are not careful. Some tips to keep in mind when changing your oil include: • Use the proper torque on the oil pan bolt. You can easily strip the bolt as only a few threads hold it in the oil pan. • Always change the filter. Never torque the filter; put it on by hand and tighten it snugly. • Always be sure the old oil filter gasket comes off the housing. A double gasket causes all the oil to end up on the floor shortly after startup. If you doesn’t catch it, you’ll trash your engine. • Stick your finger into clean oil, and then wipe the new oil filter gasket with the oil.
