TECH TIP: In drag racing, it’s important to find the “groove” in your lane when pulling up to the starting line. The “groove,” as it’s commonly referred to, is the area where tire rubber and chemical products build up from previous cars going down the track and provides optimal traction for the next car. Tire rubber likes to stick to tire rubber, and bare asphalt and concrete simply won’t give the same traction that the “groove” provides. This added friction enables you to put more power to the ground quicker, which in turn improves your launch and 60’ times. If you have a few minutes to inspect the track before your race, be sure to check out the “groove” so you can lineup accordingly and leave your competition in the dust.
