TELL ME THE OLD, OLD STORY Have you noticed how little children seem to love hearing the same book read to them over and over? When my oldest granddaughter was small, I would tell her bedtime stories made up in my head. Every night she had to tell me what the story was about the previous night before I would continue the saga. She remembered the stories exactly, but then she would embellish them with little details as if I had left something out. When she was older and no longer getting bedtime stories, one evening she called me and asked if I would tell her one of the old stories. It seemed to be a comfort thing, recalling earlier, simpler years. We are like that too, in a way. It doesnt matter how many times we hear of the birth of the Christ-child, or how many times we hear of His sacrifice on the cross, Christians never tire of hearing those same stories; they give us comfort and hope and increase our faith with each hearing. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 KJV). But we also like hearing about things that have yet to happen. Just as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob relied on promises of a Messiah, so we depend on Gods promise that Jesus will return. And the descriptions of the New Jerusalem, the new heaven and new earth, are stories that we love to hear repeatedly. Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. (2 Peters 3:13 KJV). We are also told to tell these stories to our children and anyone that will listen, not keeping them to ourselves. My
