TEMPTATION An important and fundamental truth about life is the connection between test and triumph, between temptation or examination and promotion. As the rising of sun leads to its setting, so is temptation - test or whatever you choose to call it - related to triumph, advancement and promotion. There cannot be deception greater than a thought or conviction that one can move from one level of life to a higher one without dealing successfully with some form of test,trial or temptation in the process. It is true neither of the physical sphere of life nor the spiritual realm. It is a natural and supernatural truth: No test, no promotion. Accepting this truth will change the way you see temptation. It will change your attitude toward it. Naturally, we think of temptation negatively. Temptation is a bad thing;it is so easy to conclude. The fact, however, is that temptation in itself is neither good or bad. It is neutral. It is like the wind that blows in the sea. It is either for you or against you. It enhances your sail just as it cannot only slow down your movement but can also plunge your life into danger in the sea. Every test or temptation comes to reveal your true self-your inner constitution -to you and to others. Temptation has a simple but powerful way of removing the mask of superficiality, pretence and hypocrisy with which we often hide our real selves. An important fact about temptation or test of any kind is that it does not meet you and leave you in the same position. It either takes you up or down. You dont go through temptation and remain the same. It is an irresistible force that invades, shakes, uproots and reposition you, either at a higher level or lower level. Little wonder then that no one in this mortal frame enjoys being tempted. There are not many human realities more discomforting than test. It is as undesirable as it is indispensable for growth and promotion. Temptation or test is important to God and to the devil. It is important to God because it is the instrument by which He lifts a destiny to the next level of being and operation. The devil, too, values temptation. It is the effective tool by which he pulls people of great destiny into the dungeon of failure and defeat. That means each time temptation stares you in the face, it is not all about the devil and his hate. God too is involved. His love equally at work. Whom you tend to align yourself with in dealing with the temptation determines the result. If in the face of temptation you align yourself with God through obedience to His command and dependence on His promises, then you can be sure the destination to which it leads you is a higher ground. If, on the other hand, you align yourself with the devil in disobedience and rebellion against Gods command, you can be sure of the destination even before you get there.
