TEN ALBUMS THAT HAVE INFLUENCED ME Ive been challenged by Renate Sivertsen Østensen to list 10 albums that have had an impact on me. This challenge is not about best sellers or classics... just 10 albums that have had an effect on you in some way and it does not have to be in any particular order. List your 10 albums then tag 10 friends to do the challenge. Tag me as well so I can see your list! Alright - My list looks like this: 1. Thunder - Laughing on Judgement Day (1992) what to say... this album is the album I always come back to. Fell in love with it straight away and then it grew on me... Bumped into Thunder by accident looking for a single with Cinderella featuring Little Richard called Shelter me and the guy at Hysj Hysj said, well we dont have that, but if you like Cinderella you will love this and gave me the Thunder album and a Whitesnake album. I listened to the Whitesnake first as Ive had heard of them and was not really that impressed so I thought I would give Thunder a try... listened to about 30 seconds of the 3 first songs and bought the album.... 22 years later I now own all of their albums, most singles and all dvds some cassette singles, most lps and a lot of signed items. Been to a few gigs and met the band on a few occations and going to see them again in March 2015. Thunder is the reason I interviewed Alice Cooper and it all started with this album. So this is the album that have had the biggest effect on me in some way. 2. Manowar - Kings of Metal (1988) Manowar is the biggest badass metal band of all time. Their lyrics is super easy to learn as they always are about killing, hailing, swords, power and kings. This album especially have always been my washing floor album. So my wife should know if she wants me to do some chores she best leave the house and let me put this album on. Nothing makes you work better than this album ! The band Ive also had the pleasure to see live - the loudest band in the world without doubt! 3. Aerosmith - Pump (1989) Aerosmith, well what can I say - loads of great albums to pick from as well, but my choice will be Pump a stonker of an album and featuring Janies got a gun which is the best song Ive heard live ever. Was at Oslo Spektrum on November 29th in 1993 and when the gunshot / (bass) came blasting through the speakers it surely moved me ! Aerosmith has also moved me in other ways, but this is an album with impact not a song :-) 4. Dio - Holy Diver (1983) Ronnie James, this was a really great album and one of the first heavy metal albums that I love listening to. Still everytime I hear the title song I think of when I was laying outside in the garden studying for a religion test while listening to Holy Diver :-D - Unfortunately Ronnie passed away before I had the chance to experience him live ! Probably the best singer of them all ranging from do-wop to metal. 5. Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast (1983) they just had to make the list, cause without stumbling over a cassette my oldest brother had I probably would not have listened to metal so early as I did. 6. Alice Cooper - From the Inside (1978) Yes, Alice makes the list to, no doubt he has had an impact on me as he was the first person I ever had an interview with. Met him at his hotel room Hilton Paddington and had a great 20 minutes that was the time I was getting with him. Being told that nobody would get more than 20 minutes, in fact most people got less... its great to see the lenght of my taped interview that is 30 minutes..... Knowing that I had listened to a lot of Alice Cooper music before the Trash album which was infact just Trash (but still is one of the few albums we hear songs from on the radio....) its no doubt the from the Inside album that stands out. I do think his past few albums also has some great songs, but nothing gets me like this album from Alice. Have seen him twice and what a great performer he is ! 7. Rammstein - Made in Germany (1995-2011) I know... it might be a bit of cheating to use a best of album, but this album has it all. Love listening to it and some stonking great songs in there. One of the bands that is on my bucket list to see live! 8. Dream Theater - Octavarium (2005) A great album, only flaw is it dont have enough songs ! Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine - Let it Loose (1987) 9. Leonard Cohen - Im your man (1988) Yes I do listen to other music than heavy metal and rock :-). This genious that has a golden voice that fits right there in the tower of song! A great album that I love listening to hear and there. 10. Nordman - Nordman (1994) wow, at 10 already? Dang this list should have been longer, but since it is some bands and all my Norwegian bands unfortunately did not make it today. But this one from the Swedish guy with the Norwegian name is the closest I got. Just love this album that has a lot of great songs to it. Well, thats it today - tomorrow the list might have been different, except from the top 3 that I think will always be there or at least always on the list. So for the nominations: Idar Eggen, Jamie Harrison, Robert Bjørvik, Herman Hassel, Raven Ola Hassel - well thats 5, if any other that has not been tagged before wants to do it... feel free. Thx for the nomination Renate
