TESTIMONIAL OF THE WEEK: How did you feel before coming to NWHS? Before I came to Nutrition and Whole Health Solutions, my life was controlled by my cravings for sweet and salty snacks. I found it impossible to control these cravings, which often led to binging on unhealthy, processed convenience foods. As a result, I had little appetite left for healthy, whole foods. So even though I knew a lot about eating right, my cravings took over my diet instead. As a result of the huge amounts of carbs I was eating, especially sugar, I had become significantly overweight, which affected my blood pressure and cholesterol levels. I also suffered from debilitating fatigue, occasional bouts of depression, and a few sleepless nights. I was a mess. How do you feel now? What specifically has improved? After more than two months working with Jessica and the team at NWHS, I can confidently say that my carb cravings are under control for the first time in more than a decade. By monitoring the foods I eat for meals and snacks, and learning how to actually properly balance & pair my foods, I found that I needed more protein in my diet. Once I had learned to eat a balanced diet with enough protein and fat, my carbohydrate cravings gradually decreased. As an added benefit, I began to lose weight! Now that Im having fewer cravings, Ive noticed that I have more energy, my fatigue episodes have decreased significantly, and I dont feel depressed. These changes have made it easier for me to exercise more, which just reinforces all the positive benefits. Best of all, I dont feel like Im on a diet or that I cant eat the foods I like. John M.
