TEXAS-MADE TERRORS!! Produced by Texas radio magnate Gordon MacLendon (who has a part in the film) and filmed in the Lone Star state, the production values are far from the worst for an indie horror film, the cast is competent and the script at least has the germ of an idea (a scientific experiment to deal with overpopulation gone awry) for an intriguing story. However, the mutant shrews -- large dogs costumed in furry blankets with supposedly ferocious fang-filled head pieces -- were laughable even back in the 50s. THE KILLER SHREWS was released on a double bill with another MacLendon Texas-made production, THE GIANT GILA MONSTER. Because of his prominence in broadcasting, the films were promoted heavily on MacLendons stations and were booked into prestigious, downtown movie palaces as well as drive-ins. youtu.be/tNMkaGXzX-k
