TEXT OF THE STATE BROADCAST DELIVERED BY UMARU TANKO ALMAKURA, GOVERNOR OF NASARAWA STATE ON TUESDAY, 5 AUGUST, 2014 My Dear People of Nasarawa State; Let me begin by giving glory to Almighty God and expressing my profound and heartfelt appreciation to you my good People of Nasarawa State for standing by me and this Government throughout these challenging times. You will recall that on the 14th day of July 2014, 20 PDP Members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly began what they called my impeachment. Without serving me any notice as required by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, proceeded to advertise it in the newspapers and also directed the Chief Judge to set up an investigative Panel. The said advertisement contained purported 16 allegations of misconduct and abuse of Office. As a democrat who believes in the rule of law and the Constitution, I submitted myself before the panel. This is in spite of the inherent violation of the constitutional process. Today, the Panel reached its verdict and dismissed all the allegations levelled against me since they were not proved. Though this impeachment process has been a distraction to the State, I call upon our people to take it as our contribution to the development of Constitutional democracy and the rule of Law. Accordingly, I further appeal to all citizens to remain law abiding and pursue their lawful businesses without let or hindrance as the outcome of the Panel’s exercise is indeed a victory for the People of Nasarawa State, and our democracy. I call on all the good people of Nasarawa state, especially the members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to partner with us in our collective task of building the State to the enviable height envisioned by our founding fathers. Let’s not forget that we are one people with one destiny. Thank you and May God bless Nasarawa state.
