TGIF sharing! =D Lets say youre having coffee with two friends: Friend A is thirty-five, has an O-level cert, is working as a retail assistant and is happy with his life. Friend B is thirty-five as well, has a degree, is working as a manager in a MNC and is happy with his life. Friend A is not competitive—he lives every day just laughing his way through his shift. Friend B is extremely competitive—he lives every day to climb up the corporate ladder, and is taking his masters degree now on a part-time basis. Now, tell me: Which friend do you envy? A or B? But thats not the main question. The main question is this: If you could be either one of them, which one would you be? The possibility of Friend B looking down on Friend A, thinking that Friend A is not competitive enough and therefore does not deserve a good life, is very high. In addition, many people might think that way, too. What Friend B, and the people who want to be Friend B and look down on Friend A, lacks is this: Its not a matter of competitiveness. Its a matter of values. Friend A just wants a simple life, enjoying his stress-free days, ignoring the path to be promoted. He doesn’t care about job prospects, for enough is enough. That is his values in life. Why cant we respect that? I shamefully admit that I am very competitive and want to be the first in everything I do. Earlier in my life, I do wonder why people settle for average when they can just put in more effort to be the best. But soon, I realize they have their own values, and I have mine, too. If I can respect my values, why cant I respect theirs? Theyre happy. Im happy. Why should I care? The moral of this post is simple: You respect other peoples values, and never stamp a judgement based on your own subjective view. You want to run a marathon that is 42 km, fine, but dont go thinking that people who cant complete 2.4 km are useless. They just prefer to do other things. So sit down, take a deep breath and stop trying to change other peoples values. Relax, and start to respect others. What do you think? Please share and like this if you have enjoyed reading it! P.S.
