THE 490 YEAR PROPHECY BIBLE STUDY By Genia Cruise Today we are going to study the 490 year prophecy written in the book of Daniel. The 490 year prophecy or 70 “sevens” refer to 70, seven year periods of time. The 490 year prophecy: • foretold the first coming of Messiah • proved Messiah’s identity • foretold the crucifixion • foretold Jerusalem’s destruction • prophecies event that will trigger the final seven years to Armageddon • clues to the identity of the Antichrist • establish the seven-year timeline of end of age events. Daniel 9:24-27: now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God, yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said “Oh Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand. At the beginning of your supplications the command went out and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision: ““70 weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy. Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and 62 weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. And after the 62 weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolation’s are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.” NKJV Study Notes Dan 9:24-27: 70 weeks may also be translated “Seventy – sevens”. Many scholars agree that the “sevens” are years, as the 70 years of captivity addressed in v. 2 implies. Leviticus 25:8 speaks of “seven Sabbaths of years”; Leviticus 26:18, 21 implies that Israel’s punishment would be multiplied sevenfold. Therefore, an exile of 70 “weeks” would be expected to last for 7×70 years. Second Chronicles 36:21 suggests that the captivity was to last long enough to make up for 70 omissions of the sabbatical year, which occurred every seven years. This would amount to 490 years before Gods people would experience perfect reconciliation with their God. There are many different interpretations of how these years account for the eras of world history before the second coming of the Messiah. Some interpreters have suggested that the use of the number seven and this person is symbolic representing completeness-that is, the completion of all of human history. While watching Irvin Baxter’s End Time Ministries presents the End of Ages on Daystar, his example was that the 490 year prophecy would had started around 538 BC with the decree of Cyrus, king of the Persians. The example below shows a more fitting example that I referenced in the NKJV study notes. Either way, what is important in this lesson is not when it started, rather when the “70th” week or the last 7 year prophecy will be taking place! From 458 BC, Decree of Artaxerxes (Ezra 7) To 26-33AD, Messiahs Triumphal entry then crucifixion = 483 years of the 490 year prophecy fulfilled We are still waiting for the “70th week” or 7 yrs to be fulfilled. According to Dan. 9: 27, “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured on the desolate.” Who is “he?” NKJV Study Notes: HE may be a reference to the antichrist, who will confirm a covenant with Israel. In the middle of the week, that is, 3 ½ years later-he will break the covenant. Abominations… Desolate: Antiochus committed an abomination of desolation by setting up an altar to the god Zeus in the Temple in Jerusalem (11:31). The antichrist will also commit an abomination of desolation against the living God (see Matt. 24:15), the consummation… Is poured out on the desolate: the fact that this abomination does not occur until the consummation suggests that this verse is describing the abomination of the antichrist and not that of Antiochus. What does consummation mean? Consummation means perfect ending. The bringing of something to a satisfying conclusion, or the final satisfying completion or achievement of something. It also means the completion of a deal. What is the covenant that the antichrist will be confirming with Israel? The Abraham Covenant. What is the confirmation of the covenant? When the International Community, Israel, the Palestinians and the Middle East Peace Agreement is signed, stating that the Temple Mount is placed under a sharing agreement and allowing the building of the 3rd Temple. This will officially be the beginning of the final 7 years. At this point, the Antichrist may not be revealed. What sacrifices will he stop? Animal sacrifices, as the Israelis performed in the past. What Is the “Abomination of Desolation?” When the Antichrist will stand on the Temple and claim to be God above all gods. There is no way to know exactly what he will say… but I’m sure that he will claim to be above God. At this time, the Antichrist is revealed! Matthew 24:15-26 “therefore when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet,” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. Then if anyone says to you, “look, here is the Christ! Or “there!” Do not believe it. False Christ’s and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. “Therefore, they say to you look, he is in the desert!” Do not go out; or “look, he is in the inner rooms!” Do not believe it. Let’s look at what is prophesied to happen in the 1st 3 ½ yrs: • Temple Mount placed under sharing arrangement between most likely the Jews and the Muslims. • The Temple will be rebuilt. • Animal sacrifices resumed. • The Two Witnesses start their 3 ½ yr ministry Rev. 11:1-14: The Two Witnesses: then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the Angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. But leave out the court which is outside the Temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city under foot for 42 months. And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophecy 1260 days, clothed in sackcloth. “ These are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands standing before the God of the earth. And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner. These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire. The Witnesses Killed When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, Where also our Lord was crucified. Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations will see their dead bodies 3 ½ days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves. And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth. The Witnesses Resurrected After the 3 ½ days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” “And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them. In the same hour there was a great earthquake and a tenth if the city fell. In the earthquake 7000 people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven. The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly. Rev. 11:15-19: Seventh Trumpet: The Kingdom Proclaimed Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever! “ “And the 24 elders who stand before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God saying: “we give you thanks, o Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come, because you have taken your great power and reigned. The nations were angry, and your wrath has come, in the time of the day, that they should be judged, and that you should reward your servants the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, small and great, and should destroy those who destroy the earth.” Let’s look at what will happen during the last 3 ½ year mark: • The antichrist brings an end to animal sacrifice • The antichrist performs the abomination of desolation. • Judeans flee to the mountains. This is the start of the great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. • The Mark of the Beast • JESUS’s 2nd COMING!!!!!
