THE 99th EDITION OF “THE fd ZONE” ! Curators Note: A filmmaker revisits the country where he spent four years of his adolescence. He tries to make sense of the bewildering present by looking for his memories in the 8mm videos made by his family at that time. An official visit of our Vice - President in 1966. Can the archival footage of a place made available through a private collection and an official new reel make visible a past that has been erased by the excessive war reporting and the surplus images of violence and strife? Between the spectrum spanned by the nostalgia in personal memories on one end and the sanitised view of official documentation lies the reality of a people living in the crossfire. Can that everyday experience ever be made visible? Vice-President`s Visit To Afghanistan 1966/11min/ News Reel Dr Zakir Hussain is welcomed at the Kabul airport by Afghanistans PM, Mr Maiwandwal. Visits historical and cultural centres. 2. In a country devastated by war, he rediscovers its beauty through his memories and encounters with its people. Showing a side of Afghanistan often ignored by the Western media, the film takes us on a hopeful journey through the past and present of a country that has yet to see lasting peace.
