THE ASSOCIATION OF PRESBYTERIAN CHRISTIAN EDUCATORS IS OFFERING A VISIT TO THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (U.S.A.) OFFICE OF PUBLIC WITNESS Register Today at apcenet.org/#!2015-annual-event/c23lr A Day in Washington, D.C. (9:00 a.m.-9:30 p.m.) This group will travel together, but please register for your choice of option 1 or 2. If low attendance prohibits a hired coach, the group, accompanied by a local committee guide, will take public transportation, and dinner will be near the Smithsonian. Option 1: Advocacy Day with PCUSA’s Office of Public Witness (OPW) Did you know that Presbyterians have a long history of engaging in public witness and advocacy work? From John Calvin to John Witherspoon, from the civil rights movement to Jubilee debt relief, Presbyterians have been at the forefront of some major social movements for justice. Representing the social witness policy of the Presbyterian General Assemblies and having maintained a continuous witness in the nation’s capital since 1946, OPW’s ministry is a great opportunity to experience the power and voice of the church in the public square. Participants will be briefed on current issues of the day, share food and fellowship together with OPW staff, participate in training on how to be an effective advocate, and visit with federal legislators (we will make every effort to make appointments with the participants’ own senators and/or representatives). OPW offers practical skills-based trainings, theological justifications, educational material, occasions for action, and service learning opportunities in service to the PC(USA). Come, and learn about how we can be in ministry together. Enjoy a catered lunch ($15.00, paid on site). Late afternoon is free. Meet the other group for a beautiful driving loop of the monuments at night and dinner on your own at a restaurant of your choice in Georgetown before returning to Baltimore. Leadership: Rev. J. Herbert Nelson, PC(USA) Director for Public Witness; Catherine Gordon, PC(USA) Representative for International Issues; and Leslie Woods, PC(USA) Representative for Domestic Poverty and Environmental Issues. Limits: minimum, 20 people combined with Option 2; maximum, 25 people. Fee: $80
