THE ATONING BLOODPaul Dhinakaran But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:7) Dearly beloved, The Bible says, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Sin came into a sinless world through man. The Lord Almighty came into this sinful earth in the image of man with the name ‘Jesus.’ Here, the cup of chastisement was given in His hands and that’s why He said in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?" (John 18:11). He shed His blood to remove the sins of all the people and bring salvation to them. When Lord Jesus had the last supper with His disciples, He took the cup in His hands and said, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:20). In the Garden of Gethsemane, He said to His disciples, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." Then He went a little farther and fell on His face and prayed saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." Then He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? (Matthew 26:38-40). This sorrowful time faced by Lord Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane was once shown to my father in a vision: Amidst unbearable sorrow, Lord Jesus prays, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42). That time, an angel of God tries to comfort Him (Luke 22:43). However, on the other side, the devil is gleefully shouting, “Surely He will not drink this cup; He will not undergo this; He will certainly discard it; I will continue to rule over this earth victoriously.” That exact moment, the eternal Holy Spirit comes down on Lord Jesus (Hebrews 9:14). He then reveals that Lord Jesus will be given a name above all names once He goes through the suffering of the cross. Then, as said in John 16:13, when the Holy Spirit shows Him the future and the things to come, a great comfort fills Him. At once, He willingly accepts that cup which was unto death. He says, “Father, not as I will, but as You will.” As soon as He utters these words, the wicked devil falls down and screams, ‘Alas, I am undone!” It was at this moment the sweat of Lord Jesus became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Yes, the blood of Lord Jesus removed the vessel of wrath. The Bible says, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). Lord Jesus Christ is the light. When we walk in Him and abide in Him, He will wash us with His blood and make us holy. Then we shall have what He has promised- the eternal life! Prayer: Loving Lord Jesus, You came to this world as the Saviour of this world. You are the Lamb of God who shed your blood on the cross for the salvation of mankind. I believe in You. Please come into my heart. Give me the grace to walk in You and abide in You. Wash me with your blood and make me holy. Give me the promised blessing of eternal life. In Your matchless name I pray. Amen. ----
