THE BAY IS A GRAVEYARD: In the eleven years Ive exercised along the bay, Ive never, EVER seen such carnage. In the short distance from Sandbar Beach Cafe to West Beach Bathers Pavilion I saw up to 60 dead birds: some floating in the water, most washed up on the shore. I was told they are Mutton birds, migrating from the Arctic to Tasmania, and hundreds have been reported dropping from the sky. Not enough food? Climate change? Who knows?
