THE BEST TIME TO GIVE And Elijah said to her, "Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 1 Kings 17:13 It is a foolish man that plants in dry season; it’s a man without sense or a sick person that puts on sweater and stays inside a heater during hot seasons. For every activity on earth, there is a right time. In giving to God with the expectations for immediate harvest, there is a right time for it. The widow of Zarephath gave to Elijah when it was so costly to do so, she gave to him when her wealth means her life and that of her child, and she gave to him when doing so was a fearful thing to do. The gifts that attracts immediate harvest and blessings from God are not those gifts that we give out of our excess, they are not those gifts that wouldn’t cost us anything rather the gifts that attracts immediate blessings are those ones that cost us so much, those ones that our livelihoods so much depends on. If a man that has a million dollars and gives five hundred thousand out of it, God respects him less than that man that has only ten dollar and gave it all. That ten dollars will attract more blessings than the five hundred dollars will do. It’s not the amount given that stirs up the blessing of God but the pain it costs the giver. Safe giving is that gifts we give when we have excess and doesn’t attract immediate blessing but costly giving are those gifts we give that cost us so much. Some of you, the Lord is asking for your career; He wants you to drop your secular job and pick up His assignment for you, and others the Lord want you to give Him that thing that you think is your source of livelihood. This widow risked the life of her son in other to obey God, when your gifts to God doesn’t puts you in a precarious position then that gift wouldn’t yield immediate dividend. The best time to give is in your lack and not in your excess. The widow’s last meal never finished because she gave it to the Lord, you don’t lack by giving to God, you lack by not giving. God bless you. Pastor Promise Ikpe
