THE BIG MARK From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus (Galatians 6:17 ) The mob gathered slowly. It has been known for a while that someone has been stealing yams and other peoples farm produce. Only few thieves resist thick darkness. Unlike other days ,the rain accompanied with lightning suddenly broke out. As the flashes continued, father came out to ensure that nothing gets spoilt in the rain. Suddenly , he saw the dark figure in the yam barn. He flashed his touch light and saw Okoro hiding behind the stakes of yams. So you are the thief my father yelled. Okoro made to run but was blocked by the bulkier frame of my father who has the reputation of being a strong wrestler. In the village square the following day, yam tubers were hung on Okoros neck, the youths chanted victory song as they pushed him round the market. The elders carved a big T representing thief on His forehead. The youths chanted war tunes ,and women formed a fork lore song with his name. He entered the hall of Shame and his generation grew to be known as the family of thieves. His daughters were excluded from the list of spinsters and his sons grew in isolation as potential thieves .. Ihe agwo muru aghaghi idi ogologo ( off shoot of snakes cant but be long )they taunted them. Okoro got tired of the treatment . We gathered at the orange tree behind his compound to cut down his dangling body having hung himself. As tradition demanded, he was thrown into the evil forest. Unlike this generation, he never received a chieftaincy title, nor was he given accolades in the company of the descent. Such was the negative power of the negative mark. But Paul had a different view of the mark. Every believer carries a mark of The Lord Jesus Christ . This is a seal of ownership. It shows to whose camp you belong. God marked Cain as a vagabond, he was of the evil one. The HolySpirit marks the believer as a sign of Gods deposit awaiting rapture. The devil will mark his own with 666, showing they are lost forever. No forehead is permitted to be blank. The mark you bear tells us about your allegiance and your destiny. People with genuine mark of the spirit are men with testimonies. They have gone through fire and their refinement process has purged them of the trappings and niceties of this world. They know that heaven holds a better option than the earth which is waiting to be destroyed. They are like Jacob walking with a limp into Canaan rather than the swag of earthly pride and achievement. To this group I yearn to belong. To be there we have to say like Paul............from henceforth let no man trouble me, be focused as you bear your cross.
