THE BRING BACK OUR GIRLS CAMPAIGN: TO PRAISE OR DEBASE? One of - TopicsExpress

THE BRING BACK OUR GIRLS CAMPAIGN: TO PRAISE OR DEBASE? One of the greatest lines from any Reggae song that I‘ve come to love is the simple “he who feels it knows it.“ In Idoma, we say ‘o‘kwoch‘oha, a‘kokw‘ochi,‘ meaning, when another man feels pain, you say it‘s a tree that feels the pain.(Not the exact translation) I read today how the spokepersons of some government agencies tried to rubbish the efforts of respected Nigerians who have been sacrificing their time and resources to carry out the “BringBackOurGirls campaign.(What many of us have been too busy or lazy to do) They accuse the campaigners of many things, making the gullible reader to think they are just opportunists seeking to enrich themselves, score cheap political points and generally, enemies of government rather than patriotic Nigerians who “feel“ and “know “ the pain of abduction like the abducted girls and their families. Would the spokespersons be taking this stand if their daughters or that of their ogas-at-the-top had also been abducted? Wouldn‘t they be rather appreciating the campaigners for shouting for the freedom of the girls and giving hope to the hopeless if their daughters had also been abducted and they were “ordinary Nigerians“ just like the parents of these girls? I personally feel there are some forms of dark politics, lies and conspiracies surrounding their abduction, (some of the stories reported by escaped victims don‘t jell at all - like the story of the girl that hid a phone in her panties and called her father while in the camp. Did BH give her a charger to charge her phone too, after several days) but we must appreciate Nigerians who still care about other Nigerians, not paint them bad(I didn‘t say black because black is not evil) Common! Even international stars are doing #BringBackOurGirls! Very soon they‘ll even accuse Michelle Obama of using the hashtag as a franchise!
