THE CRASH OF 2008 (MY EXPERIENCE) In 2008, i had a front row seat as a realtor to witness the carnage that took place during the housing collapse. I witnessed some of the saddest and depressing times in the lives of homeowners and builders that i thought I would never see. It was like experiencing a Hollywood movie where you watch the movie and then its over and you are glad that its not reality. Well this was reality and I could not leave the movie theatre or wake up from this bad dream. As a realtor in Seattle, WA, I sat with countless families who were looking to me for help and how they could short sale their home they never dreamed they would lose. These were families that were not just first time home owners, but couples who had owned several homes and close to retirement. Than there were my home builders. Men who were long time contractors, successful contractors, who watched their long time friends at their banks become ravenous wolves in a blink of an eye!!! I loved these men, they were hard working and full of integrity, but in a blink of an eye, everyone of them lost it all. I remember sitting with WVT and PT each week and talking about the market, and I had a pit in my stomach of trying to figure out what I could do to solve this problem?? I was helpless in my own power. This whole experience changed my perspective on so many things, as well as whom and what I give pieces of my heart too. When we lose those things we worked for, its easy to be bitter, confused, angry and downcast. That is our normal human response. But when we realize as believers that everything good we have comes from above, than we come to accept that it was and is ALL His. I was powerless to remedy the problems my clients and builders faced, but He was not powerless and He truly does take ALL things and brings them together for His purposes. My take away on this.....if we give God our entire Heart and preeminence in our hearts, we will withstand the flaming arrows of this life and live in victory no matter what we lose of temporal value.
