THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN YOGA & PILATES 1) Breathing Yoga For yoga your breath is generally full belly breathing. Think about a baby or a puppy, when they breath their bellies fully expand on the inhale and deflate on the exhale. That is how you want to breath with yoga. In our daily lives we tend to take short, shallow breaths. The belly breath oxygenates the blood, lowers stress, blood pressure and trains you to focus internally. Pilates Pilates has a strong focus on the core. If you were to use belly breathing while practicing pilates you would be unable to keep your core engaged. Still, pilates encourages bull breathing that oxygenates the blood as well. Pilates teaches you to use your lungs to their fullest ability. When you breathe in pilates you fill up your lungs, expanding your ribs out wide allowing you to keep your core engaged. pilatesrichmond/balance/the-differences-between-yoga-and-pilates
