THE DILEMMA OF MUSLIM VOTERS OF OKHLA With BJP declaring Brahm - TopicsExpress

THE DILEMMA OF MUSLIM VOTERS OF OKHLA With BJP declaring Brahm Singh as its candidate from Okhla, the contest has become tri-cornered. While last year Asif M. Khan got 50004 votes, BJP candidate got 23358 votes and stood third. A simple calculation based on last year votes polled will certainly get warning bells ringing for this Muslim dominated constituency and its leaders. If we add Votes of BJP and Brahm Singh (BSP candidate in last elections) then the figures comes to 23358 + 20392= 43750 votes). This was the case when there was no BJP or Modi wave. This time the Muslim vote looks more divided. The voters are confused between AAP and Congress. It will be interesting to see that those who voted for Shoaib Danish of JD (U) last time will vote for which candidate. No doubt this election will be the most closely fought one. Once again the Muslim voter is in dilemma. Should they vote for Congress to keep BJP away? Should they go with AAP for a change? Or Support BJP.. (highly unlikely) Whatever be the result, the mandate of VOTERS OF OKHLA will not only decide the fate of the constituency but also highlight the perception of Muslim voters. Once again the issues like development, illegal construction, traffic, security, education have been put on the backburner. Malik Ghufran Rumi
