THE ELVIS NOTES... We had moved a couple of times an`then in early 1956 we moved to 1034 Audubon drive, a ranch type seven-room house. It was a pretty nice place, but i knew i would have to move to a larger house. So in march 1957, i bought Graceland, for myself, my parents and my grandmother to live in. When i first bought the estate and mansion it was just like living in the country. The house sits atop a hill in the suburb of Whitehaven, almost directly in the middle of it`s eighteen acres. A stretch of highway 51 south, part of which runs past Graceland, was officially renamed Elvis Presley Boulevard in 1971 it had eighteen rooms...I have added to the house over the years. A few months after i came here, i had a six foot stone wall erected around the property and custom-built music gates installed. I also built the Meditation garden in the summer of `65 as a place of contemplation. it is great just to have a place to meditate in a place that`s pretty and peaceful, where i can think and be by myself. Man meditation is the greatest tonic in the world. more soon EP
