THE EMERGING CONFLICTS DURING THE EARLY STAGES OF SPIRITUAL REVIVAL Rom 8:1-17 ( Please read the Bible selection to connect the following teaching with the context it is addressing.) An unseen and often unrecognized war between spirit and flesh often surface during the early stages of revival. The reviving Christian must learn how to deal with this tension. Two spiritual laws come into conflict with one another during these times. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is opposed to the law of sin and death. Consequently, spiritual mindedness is heightened in revival, but carnality taking on the cloak of religious form and tradition can quench the spirituality unless discerned. (Gal.3:1-5) An almost military disciplined lifestyle of walking in the Spirit confronts traditions along with the temporary carnal feelings often linked with condemnation, rejection and fear. Reviving souls awaken to the fact that the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, lives with in them. Physical health, emotional stability, mental soundness and natural strength will generally be revived if the battle against carnality is defeated and spiritual mindedness embraced. Intimacy with God is ultimately the resulting fruit of this form of revival because the human spirit responds to God crying “Abba Father.”
