THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF ASSEMBLIES OF GOD NIGERIA. It is with utmost sense of responsibility that I undertake to do this piece for d enlightenment of majority of our members esp d youths who are not quite conversant with d system of AG administration. The objective is neither to advance any position/opinion, nor to align with any partisan interest, in d lingering issues confronting d organization; but to provide basic unbiased information dat may help well-meaning members express informed opinion/viewpoint. 1st in this series is d workings of Executive Committee (EC). Judging from posts/comments,many of our members dont understand d place of EC in AG Administration. Its ironical too dat so many FB commentators are not aware of d provisions of AG Constitution &Byelaws, which this piece will rely on! EC is a creation of Article VIII Sec 1. It is a 16-member body comprising GS, AGS, GSec, GT, 1Missionary Rep & 11 District Supts. The GS serves as Chairman. All 4 Generals are elected under d same qualifications/criteria on d floor of d General Council in Session (Article V). 11 District Supts are elected from 11 Geopolitical Zones well delineated by Article V Sec 2c. Thus d entire country has a representation at EC. A cursory glance at Article VIII Sec 2 shows that all executive powers are vested on EC. These include power to interpret/implement decisions/policies of Gen Council/Gen Committee, oversight and supervision of all Depts, creation of Districs/Areas, posting of missionaries, Appointment of Officers/Faculty members of all AG Training Institutions, appointent of all National Directors/Coordinators... In short EC is d Govt of AGN. D workings of EC is dfferent from that of Fed Executive Council where d President picks his Vice & appoints all ministers, SGF, SAs etc to constitute his cabinet. In d case of EC, members are directly elected by d whole constituency to govern d Chur under pure democratic principles. The Constitution did not even grant Chairman veto in whatsoever, howsoever but provides that a majority decision supercedes! For instance, Article VI Sec 1(l) states that GS shall perform all other functions usual and customary to presiding officers, or such as may be directed by Gen Council, Gen Committee and Executive Committee. Similarly Sec 2(e), 3(g), 4(h) state that AGS, GSec & GT shall perform such other functions usual and customary to d office or as may be directed by Gen Council, d General Committee or d Executive Committee. D import of all these is to d effect that AGN is administered under standard parliamentary doctrines of democracy & collectivism in all ramifications. Men & Brethren this is our Constitution&ByeLaws, our collective bargain, our peculiar system of Administration as far as d Executive Committee is concerned. Again, this is not to advance any partisan interest, (NO OPINION is intended or canvassed!); simply for education &enlightenment of our members. Shalom!
