THE EXTORTIONIST (IBEDC) AND THE OPPRESSED (SAKI - TopicsExpress

THE EXTORTIONIST (IBEDC) AND THE OPPRESSED (SAKI COMMUNITY). The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) was acquired under the privatisation programme of the Federal Government, the Federal Government privatized Power Holding Company of Nigeria, (PHCN) with the hope that the change we all expected had come where we will all be able to boast of at least 12 hours of power supply daily. But the reverse is the case as our stories have now turned to ‘had I known’. There is no concrete change. No area can boast of one hour power supply. The situation gets worse on daily basis viz-a-viz inflated cost of bills and total blackout. Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has been very unfair to its customers in Saki. At times, there will be no light for days, weeks and months but their Business Unit will bring bills with provocative, unthinkable, unreasonable and obnoxious figures which in all fairness of human existence can not and never be justified, it also renders the commonsensical notion of high quality of services equal a reasonable and commensurate price (bill) useless. What then is the effect of privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria on the masses? If there is no light supply, there should be no bills for equity, justice and fair play sake. And this a company that promises to reinforce the network of its franchise area by making substantial investment towards the upgrading of injection sub-stations, distribution sub-stations and distribution lines and also focus on delivering excellent service to its customers and providing customer satisfaction through efficient, safe and reliable power supply system that would power industrial growth, generate employment and improve the quality of life of customers in its franchise area. As i have always been saying and will say it now again that it will be grossly unfair and gravely bad on the side of the poor masses if we the HOPE of our community, society and Nation leaves the poor masses to die in privation and let the imposing few (the political class, capitalist and the bribable, purchasable and venal public officers) and their relatives enjoy excessive wealth which was made from the struggle and sweat of the poor. The forceful imposition of Electricity bills in SAKI and it environs is the greatest and highest form of extortion that can happen to any community and the most painfull and unacceptable part of this extortion is that the rationale behind the billing is unknown to the inhabitants of SAKI.. I want to use this medium to appeal to the reasoning faculty of the able, progressive and ever-tatan Saki comrades to react to these actions and let our voice (youths and comrades) be heard and not be heard but also effective because i believe the company (IBEDC) has been fooling our poor, less-informed and illiterate masses by tactically issuing bills without pressurizing them to pay now and the bills keeps increasing and accumulating, And after some few month in which they believe the electricity supply will be partially back to normalcy and by then our suffering and smiling masses as said by the Musician cum activist FELA, will patiently and obediently pay the accumulated charges (bills).........We are our the HOPE of these people, lets stand and rise to these EXPECTATIONS that has been bestowed on us.. RISE to cry of the opressed.... DON MAYOR
