THE EYES OF UNDERSTANDING The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. Ephesians 1:18 Have you ever had a moment of revelation before? That moment occurs when something you have known for a long time suddenly takes on a new and profound meaning. The familiar takes on new meaning; the common becomes uncommon; the old becomes fresh and inspiring. It is possible to look at something and not see it. Reading the Bible and hearing it preached does not always lead to understanding. When we encounter Gods word, we must have an understanding that goes beyond an academic study to the illumination of the mind by the Holy Spirit. Since the Holy Spirit inspired the writing of the Scriptures, it is reasonable to trust Him to give us understanding when we read the Scriptures. • God wants to enlighten the eyes of our understanding whenever we encounter His word. He wants to open our spiritual eyes to the truths of His word, to give us fresh insights that revive our souls and excites our faith. • God wants us to know the hope of His calling in our lives. When we walk with the Lord, He calls us to a life of expectancy and great possibilities. • God wants us to know how rich our inheritance in Christ is. When we become part of His kingdom, we become heirs of God. When we see with our spiritual eyes how glorious our inheritance is, we are encouraged to endure to the end.
