THE FACTS - CONCUSSION • A concussion is a brain injury. • All concussions are serious. • Concussions can occur without loss of consciousness. • Concussions can occur in any sport. • Recognition and proper management of concussions when they first occur can help prevent further injury or even death (source: CDC) Since 2009, Valley Health has been providing high schools in the Shenandoah Valley with an opportunity to implement baseline and follow-up concussion testing for student athletes, at no cost to the schools. Valley Health currently partners with 12 area high schools and funds ImPACT™ (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) for their athletic programs.
