THE FATHER, THE SON, THE HOLY GHOST by: Allian Bern Ballares Fuentes we believe that there is one God co-existing in three persons: namely the Father, the Son, and the Holy ghost. this doctrine is called as the TRINITY. but before going to the discussion, we must first admit the fact that the word three persons and trinity are nowhere found in the bible. but this fact cannot still prove that trinity does not exist. some people only believe what EXACTLY is written in the bible, they are trying hard in reasoning out that if it is not written in the bible, then it is not worth believing for. our objection to this is that it is alright to believe what is not written in the bible, as long as it does not contradict the principle of God. so these people who hold the belief must face this question: the word bible is not written in the bible, why do you believe it? the very best event that proves the existence of the trinity is when Jesus Christ was water baptized by John. the trinity appeared TO THE SAME PERSON, AT THE SAME PLACE, AND AT THE SAME TIME. John baptized the Son, he saw the Holy Spirit descending in the form of a dove, and he heard the voice of the Father. Mat 3:16,17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are called persons because they can talk, they can see, they can smell, they can feel, they can hear just like humans. God created man in his own image, so it should be logical that both God and humans are persons. Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. THE SON while we dont have some quite problem concerning the Father, let us go directly to the Son. some people do not believe that Jesus Christ is God. they have various philosophical reasons and various supporting verses to prove their view. we can also give various verses to prove that he is indeed God. but for me, Hebrews 1:8 is enough. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. here, we can say that the Father himself called his Son as God. so in assuming that Jesus Christ is not God would make the Father LIE to his Son. but we know that God cannot lie, and therefore what the Father told to his Son is true. Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; THE HOLY GHOST there are also many arguments concerning the Holy Ghost. some people do not believe that he is a person but only an influence or power. but we believe that he is the third person of the trinity. because he possesses senses, behaviors, characteristics, and acts just like the Father and the Son, and like humans. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. here, we see the Holy Ghost GUIDES, SPEAKS, HEARS, and even KNOWS the future (things to come). so how could he be not a person? notice also that the author used HE which signifies a personal pronoun. the Holy Ghost also Grieves: Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. so we already have proven that he is indeed a person, but how can we prove that he is God? Gen 1:2,3 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. here, we can see that the Holy Ghost was there at creation, and he was called as God in verse 3. Acts 5:3,4 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. here, we see that Peter told Ananias that he lied to the Holy Ghost, and Peter told him that he did not lie unto men, but unto God.
