THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, AKURE. NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES ENGINEERING STUDENTS ASSOCIATION NUESA 200 LEVEL LEAGUE TOURNAMENT MATCH REPORT Civil and Environmental Engineering VS Electrical and Electronics Engineering CVE 2 - 2 EEE Controversial and below par refereeing denied CVE the maximum three points in a match they dominated and in which EEE player Sconi should have seen red for his reckless tackles. CVE title charge for the NUESA league suffered a huge blow as they were again held to a two all draw by an average EEE side that came back twice from behind. CVE impressed with their free flow passing style early in the game which allowed them to penetrate easily into their opponents half. It did not take them long before the opposition goalkeeper was tested as Ali Taiwo flashed a shot wide off the target. The tactical changes the CVE coach promised at the end of the last match was visible as the CVE team tossed the ball around comfortably forcing EEE into sitting back and absorbing the pressure. CVE continued plying up the pressure early on as Daniels cross was headed away for a corner kick. The resulting corner kick from Ikpe went into the box and Daniel tried an acrobatic kick but was blocked by the EEE defenders before David rebound went awfully over the cross bar. CVE were awarded a controversial free kick some metres away from goal but Seguns effort went over the cross bar. It was an all CVE affair in the 1st half as captain Ikpe flashed a shot across the goal mouth but Iloris sliding effort came late. CVE also entertained their fans to some wonderful techniques and skills as Ismail dribbled Ambali, that the latter fell as big as he was to the ground, to the delight of the fans. CVE broke the deadlock 15th minutes into the game after some neat buildup from the defence found David at the edge of the box before he curled a shot at goal which the goalkeeper was unable to keep out. CVEs goal woke EEE from their slumber as they started attacking in mass. This brought about the first booking of the game when CVE defender Yusuf brought down one of EEEs player. EEE came close to getting the equalizer from the free kick with a low shot which beat the goalkeeper but were denied by the woodwork. EEEs new found energy forced CVE to retreat and were made to rue their missed chances. EEE got their equalizer from a corner kick by Fatai which happened to be the goal of the match. The CVE defense conceded a corner kick and Fatai played a beautiful in - swinging cross which evaded the goalkeeper into the net. CVE responded immediately after the restart with a goal from Ali Taiwo. CVE crisp passing style resulted in the goal after the ball found Ilori. Iloris cross from the left found Ali Taiwo which he slotted into the net. CVE should have extended their lead through Ali Taiwo after exchange of passes with right back Kehinde but his shot was weak after dribbling past two defenders. EEEs Sconi got the 2nd booking of the game after an intentional foul on Kehinde due to frustration. The second half started with some questionable and contentious decisions from the referee. EEEs Fatai played a free kick over the cross bar while CVEs Ilori failed to make use of Seguns through ball with a weak shot on target. Some disgruntled fans invaded the pitch when the referee gave EEE a free kick in the CVE penalty box when an infringement was committed. The resulting kick went over the cross bar. EEE got their second equalizer from super sub Abeeb. CVE defence was caught napping after a through ball from Henry found Abeeb when he outpaced Yusuf and slotted in the rebound after his initial effort hit the woodwork. Taunts were directed at the CVE players after the equalizer. Substitute Marvelous missed the opportunity to put CVE back in front after he beat the offside trap but failed to beat the goalkeeper with his tame shot. Fatai should have done better with his chance after Jahs cross was parried by the goalkeeper. Sconi should have seen red after his successive tackle on CVE players but the referee waved it off to the dismay of the CVE players and staff. CVE late pressure failed to make any impact while EEE counterattacking play also failed to yield any result as the game neared its end. Play was disrupted after some decisions by the referee did not go well with the players before the final whistle. As it stands, CVE drops to 3rd place with 2 points while EEE maintained their 2nd position with 4 points behind MME in first place with 4 points too but with a superior goal difference. MEE lie in 4th place with 2 points after playing a one all draw with MME while MNE and AGE, having a game in hand, lie in 5th and 6th respectively. CVE will hope to boost there title chances when they next face AGE in the 3rd round of matches while EEE face MEE. Speaking after the match, the coach of the EEE side praised his sides resilience as they came twice from behind. He expressed dissatisfaction with the teams 1st half performance blaming it on the lack of intensity as against the previous match. He was happy with the way the team grew in the game during the 2nd half and conceded mother luck was on their side. Also, the CVE coach praised his teams 1st half performance but bemoaned the 2nd half display of the team. He expressed displeasure with the teams indiscipline in playing according to instructions. He cited that great teams win games by playing as a team but was disappointed with the players for playing individually and not playing as a team and according to instructions passed during halftime.
