So powerful was the mystery revealed, and so uniform the ancient Greek determination to keep the secret, no credible record has come down to us, although scholars since Plato – who took the kykeon cup himself – have known the essential outlines of the story.” Little Mo picked up a small, carved soapstone jar from the table. He held it before them, cradled in both hands. Loosely packed with a chunky, fibrous, light brown plant that had been dried and chopped up, it was now reconstituting in some kind of tawny liquid within the jar. “So, we too, seekers after truth and beauty, swear ourselves to secrecy!” He sat the jar back on the table and cocked his head to indicate that he awaited their response. “I do!” Melodee was the first to pipe up, as enthusiastic as any bride. “I mean,” she giggled, “I swear!” “I swear!” the other two girls echoed as the Crystallodeon chimed and jingled quietly in the evening breeze.
