THE FLAGSHIP PROJECT MANY ARE EYEING FOR Features Konza Techno City will deliver almost 100,000 jobs by 2030. and will feature: Central Business District (CBD): easily accessible to all residents and workers by public transport, walking, cycling and by car. This CBD will contain commercial offices, shops, market, a district hospital, hotels, restaurants, leisure and entertainment facilities and other facilities of this nature. University campus: capable of accommodating 1,500 students and promoting excellence in research and technology. Residential community: occupying almost 920 ha, providing almost 37000 homes and accommodating a resident population of 185,000 people. This includes space for the provision of schools, primary health care facilities, churches and other religious facilities, local recreation space and play space, and local shops. Parks and wildlife: green corridors occupying 624 ha will ensure Konza City develops and improves the environment. Plans to make a significant contribution to wildlife conservation have now been backed by Kenya Wildlife Conservancy. The plans will safeguard the unique ecology of the Savannah whilst promoting accessibly to Kenya’s special environmental habitats. Phase 1 Phase 1 of Konza will take up 400 acres and will include 1.5 million square meters of vertical development and US$750 million of on-site infrastructure and US$310 million of off-site infrastructure. Phase 1 is designed as a “stitch” in the overall vision for Konza. There will be a rich mix of uses, but it will be highlighted by: Office district with retail centre adjacent to a transport hub Technology and life sciences district providing campus-like setting for companies Residential district that accommodates a diversity of housing types University district that houses a 8,000 student university A primary east-west axis of the stitch contains mixed-use program and two primary roadways, a green-park boulevard, with public transportation, “land bridges” over the expressway and a commercial/retail boulevard. The boulevards connect Phase 1 with the A109 (main road to Konza City). A park system that provides connective tissue and opportunity for active and passive recreation. The stitch is designed as a framework for later-phase growth of the city, in which the bands of the stitch will extend to bring program through the site. Phase 1 Infrastructure Sustainable and reliable infrastructure will be provided at Konza. It will provide the amenities required by knowledge companies and its workers. KOTDA Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KOTDA) is a high-quality, single-purpose, and results-oriented organization with a variety of responsibilities and powers to ensure Konza’s success. Its mission is to ensure that Konza grows into a sustainable world-class technology hub and a major economic driver for the nation, with a vibrant mix of businesses, workers, residents, and urban amenities. These include: marketing and promoting Konza, controlling and leasing Konza land, regulating business incentives and facilitating business, guiding real estate development according to master plan principles, financing and developing infrastructure, and providing and overseeing PPP provision of high-quality services. Public-private partnerships Public-private partnerships will deliver Konza City with the oversight of the KOTDA. Sales Pavilion The Konza Techno City pavilion will be the first building to be built at Konza Techno City. The pavilion is designed as an iconic, landmark building that will both serve the public and house early city management functions. The building will showcase the goals and aspirations of KTC, constructed with cutting edge technologies and engineered to be a green and environmentally responsible structure. Situated in the Kenyan savannah, the most striking feature of the pavilion is the undulating roof canopy which defines the visual profile of the building in the landscape and creating a large, open, shaded deck above the ground floor. The canopy, which is designed for a direct-to-fabrication process in an industry leading digital workflow, evokes the shade of an acacia tree in the open landscape. Puncturing the canopy are several oculi “trunks”, which bring light and air though to the ground floor and connect to the major functions of the project, including an auditorium, the main meeting space, and a terrarium.
