THE FOUR STAGES OF ULTRA RUN. Had a great 12 hr run on 15 th august in mumbai,had decided just 20 days back to run for 12 hrs after reading the article in dna paper about shivaji park group organizing the event to promote running in mumbai.started the run at sharp 5 am in morning and the first loop of 11km was very easy with anant and was very happy to see all the arrangement done by the organizers.did 2 loops in almost 3 hrs and was running very comfortable and the body was supporting and the climate was great as well.we were running for 6 mins and were walking for 4 mins for the first 3 hrs of the run .for me the first 3 hrs were like i was just listening to my physical body and responding to it.then started the 3 rd loop and started doing 50:50 ration of walk run and felt that i am entering into second stage of my run where i was just listening to my mind and giving command to my body to just fellow the mind instructions.my bnp friend prasant joined me and was supporting me tru out the run after 9 am.we had decided to take a 10 mins break after we finish our 3 rd loop and after every every 11 kms we were getting our bp and weight checked.the dr asked me to take a break for 15 mins and to have more water and salts as my blood pressure had dropped down to 100/60 and after adequate hydration and a break of 25 mins my blood pressure was checked again and then only i was given to run ahead after 5 hrs.i must say we had the best arrangement i have seen till date in any organised event in india with almost a team of more than 20 physiotherapist at all the 4 aid station. i was nearing 6 hrs of my run and was happy that 50% of my run is done and that i found that my thoughts were now almost not there and i am just going ahead with a thoughtless mind and in a state of meditation and enjoying my run with no pain or discomfort in any part of my body.thats were i found myself entering into 3 rd stage of my run and i could see all my emotions coming out during the run.i was feeling so so happy that i registered my name for the event and was running with a great sense of joy in my heart and was totally lost in my run.i finished the 5 th loop and was given company by two of my friends from bnp , bindu and hitesh,and it was now all 4 of us running together and i had just forgotten that i am running since 5 am and its been 8hrs into running and felt as if i am starting afresh after having shower and enjoyed the cup of tea along the way and the run was of 2.5 mins and walk for 2.5 mins tru out now.after 9hrs i felt that i have entered the forth satge of ultra running and that is of spiritual stage where your mind is totally blank and you are just in present moment with your body and i had literally forgot who i am ,like i was in a very meditative state of mind and was counting how many times i have passed along the shiddivinayak temple today and was feeling happy that i crossed it for more than 12 times and again as i passed accrossed it after 11 hrs of my run i was thanking almighty for taking care of me so well tru out the run and help me finish the 12 hrs run so strong with 72 kms done and feeling so fresh. happy to have gone tru all the four stages of ultra running.
