***THE FRAME*** There are of course numerous of important components on a tractorpuller. But it all has to be built on a frame. A modified tractor, like the unlimited, minis, light modified always have a frame where everything is built on. A lot of tractors in the Prostock and Superstock use a complete frame as well, but not all of them. When a tractor does use a frame it is called a Components Tractor(all modified tractors are components tractors) and when it doesnt it is called a Non-Components tractor. In this post we only concentrate on the Components Pullers, I will discuss a Non-Component puller in a other post. In the world of tractorpulling there are basically two types of frames: A tube-frame and a frame of two very strong and thick strips of steel that are folded over at the top and the bottom to strengthen it(See picture of the Lambada frame). A tube-frame was and still is one of the most common frames to see. It is made out of tubes welded together in a triangle way (see picture below). This type of frame is very strong and fixed. It can be made out of various types of metal alloys such as Chrome molybdenum. It is used on various modified tractors but also a common sight on Components Superstock and Prostock tractors. The other type of frame is getting used a lot more nowadays because its relatively easy to fabricate because its one big strip of metal instead of numerous little tubes. So fabricating it is easier and quicker. This type of frame is more flexible but still very strong and often made out of DOMEX Steel. A lot of modified tractors nowadays use this type of frame and Prostocks and Superstocks as well. A common sight with these types of frames is the wrenching/twisting of the frame during the pull (see picture of the lambada). Although the twisting is getting less due to improved alloys to make the frame out of. Things attached on the frame for example: Engine mounts, Crossboxes, the Rear-Axle set-up, the rollbar, brake set-up, electrical components and so on. This is the basic story about the frames of Tractorpullers. Though a lot of Pullers have their own thoughts on frames, building materials and so on. There are many frames out there and might seem the same but their actually totally different ! https://facebook/media/set/?set=a.545958608841144.1073741830.545814035522268&type=3
