THE GREAT BUILDING INSCRIPTION OF KING RAMSES II IN THE GREAT TEMPLE OF ABYDOS - part I "I champion Thee, like Thy son, Horus, I have done according to His doing. I repeat for Thee monuments in the necropolis, I double the offerings for Thy Ka (the spirit). I answer on behalf of my father (King Sethi I), He being in the NetherWorld, in the place . . . . , for the son becomes the champion of His father like Horus when He avenged Osiris, forming the one who formed him, fashioning the one who fashioned him, causing to live the name of the one who begot him, the King of Upper and Lower Egypt, UserMaatRa-SetepenRa (Ramses II), the son of Ra whom He loved, the Lord of diadems, Ramses-MeryAmon, given life like Ra forever, beloved of Osiris, the Lord of Abydos. Then it was in order to act as champion of His father that the Lord of the Two Lands arose as King. In the regnal year one, during His first voyage to Uaset (Diospolis Megale-Thebes), He fashioned the cult statues of His father, King MenMaatRa (Sethi I) was He, one in Uaset and another in Memphis, in the Temples that He built for them, an addition to the perfection and beauty of that which is in Abydos of the Thinite Nome, the place which He loved, the desire of His heart since He was on earth, the ground of Osiris Onnophris. He repeated the renewing of the monuments for His father in the necropolis, vivifying His name, fashioning His statues, causing food offerings to remain for His Ka, enriching His House (the Temple), supplying His altars, filling up that which was lacking in the Temple which He loved, building up pillars in His Shrine, dressing its walls, establishing its doors, erecting what was incomplete in this Seat of His father in the district of Osiris . . . . , the double facade made therein, in everything which the Great of Strength, the King of Upper and Lower Egypt, UserMaatRa-SetepneRa the son of Ra Ramses-MeryAmon, given life, does for His father Osiris King MenMaatRa (Sethi I), Whose word is right and true. He set up for Him offerings, supplied with food endowments for His names among the Kings, His heart being kindly disposed toward the one who begot him, His feelings caring for the one who brought Him up."
