Lord Shorty Aka Garfield Blackman born on October 6, 1941 in Lengua, Trinidad is widely accepted as the creator/Father of soca music. Soca music originated as a fusion of calypso with Indian rhythms, do not fall for the misconception that Soca is a fusion of American soul music and traditional calypso, hence the name "so-ca," soul/calypso. Soca music has evolved in the last 20 years with musicians gracing the scene from various Caribbean and european countries including Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados, Guyana, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica and Belize, England and many many more !!!
