THE HOLIDAY OF CREATION The first of Tishrei signals Creation and of beginning of time. On the sixth day God said “Let us make man” thus it is the birthday of man. It is also a day of judgment. Things come into being because of their creator’s command, who then sits on judgment on them. “And He saw that it was good.” This applies even more to man who has free will and is thus subject to constant re-evaluation. The blowing of the Shofar is an acknowledgment of God as King. The Bible views the laws of natural existence as an expression of Monarchy because they are viewed from a moral perspective: an absolute Will to beneficence manifested itself in these laws. Man required a unique legislation that would point him the direction of doing that which was intended by the moral will of his Creator. This is the basis of God’s commandments that begin with Adam and are repeated to Noah the ancestor of all humanity. The “natural law” that applies to all mankind is called the Noachide Code. It is included within the Torah as given to Israel at Sinai. All Creation is legislation and the sovereignty of God over Creation is the execution of justice. Man has free will and is thus subject to constant re-evaluation. Man is judged by his deeds. This is the link between Creation, law and judgment. All creation manifest God’s moral Will and beneficence. When Cain slew Able the universe protests the terrible crime. “The voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.” It is a blow to the order of the universe. The prophets warn the people that if they do that which is evil in God’s eyes, Eretz Yisrael will disgorge them from itself. Sin injures the world’s order and destroys the world. The flood was the result of sin and allowing creation to partially return to chaos. WISHING EVERYONE A GOOD YEAR.
