THE HONOURABLE SPEAKER AND HIS POLITICAL TRICKS You cannot know the attributes of a man until he is given the power to govern. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. As part of my efforts to ensure accountability in governance and to assess our political office holders so as to ascertain their level of achievements and failure, it becomes of essence that the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi should be checked. Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi came into limelight of Ogun state politics few years ago through a group loyal to Chief Olusegun Osoba and he eventually emerged as the Speaker due to the support given to him by the group. Consequently, after his emergence as the Gateway state’s speaker, Rt. Hon switched allegiance and loyalty to Gov. Ibikunle Amosun and betrayed the people and the entire group that supported him while seeking for power. Although someone may say that is politics but, what about integrity? Ever since he switched, all his activities have been opposing, sidelining and even castigating the people that brought him into power. However, Rt. Hon. Suraj became so arrogant that: • He stopped hand shaking even with his friends • He won’t respond if you call him Hon. Speaker without adding Right Hon. • He calls everyone by name. even those who are older than him • He shot his door against those who labored and worked for his emergence including the youths that rigorously followed and supported him day and night • He goes to his hometown with heavily guarded security personnel • He abuses the party leaders and the members of the party • He ignored the wards that he claim to representing and concentrated only on his ward in Ayetoro as if it was only his ward that voted him into power • He did not even go to these wards for a THANK YOU VISIT after election. However, barely 3 months to another election, Hon. Speaker is now busy visiting the places he last visited about 3 ½ years ago pleading with the elders and the people he has been rudely behaved to. Telling them he’s been childish and even dishing out goodies to some to seek their support once again. I even gathered that the Governor told some set of people that the Hon. Suraj would be his successor if 2nd term is granted. Here are my questions: • What leadership qualities and traits do Suraj has that can make him a state Governor? • A person that cannot manage 25 people, how can he manage the whole state? • Is Suraj’s integrity so good that Amosun will genuinely support him? • How sure is Amosun that Hon. Suraj will not betray him as he did to his original group? • Is Amosun our MESSIAH in Ogun West that he would support us for Governorship come 2019 when all his projects and appointments made during his tenure does not favour us in Ogun West? My people do not be cajoled by mere deceits of our speaker. All we have seen about him since 3 ½ years ago are his TRUE IDENTITY. What he’s doing now is a FAKE, DECEIT AND LIES. HE HAS SHOWN US WHAT TO EXPECT IF HE RETURNS TO POWER AGAIN. I pray we don’t fall into his trap and that of his master again. God bless Yewa North Local Government, God bless Ogun State.
