THE HUMAN RESPONSE “God called to him from within the bush, - TopicsExpress

THE HUMAN RESPONSE “God called to him from within the bush, ‘Moses! Moses!’ And Moses said, ‘Here I am’”. Ex 3:4 NIV Sometimes God calls people in some big dramatic moment, as happened with Moses. But at other times He calls in some quiet, almost insignificant way. Albert Schweitzer, the great medical missionary to equatorial Africa was uncertain as to how he was to serve “humanity”. Then one evening in the college library where he was working he noticed a green magazine from the Paris Missionary Society. He picked it up “and, in the very act of putting it aside to get on with his work, he opened it mechanically and caught sight of an article headed, ‘The Needs of the Congo Mission’. He said, ‘It was by Alfred Boegner, the President of the Paris Missionary Society, an Alsatian, and contained a complaint that the Mission had not enough workers to carry on its work in the Gaboon, the northern province of the Congo Colony. The writer expressed his hope that the appeal would bring some of those ‘on whom the Master’s eyes already rested’ to a decision to offer themselves for this urgent work. The conclusion ran: ‘Men and women who can reply simply to the Master’s call, ‘Lord, I am coming’, these are the people whom the Church needs. The article finished, I quietly began my work. My search was over’” (W.E. Sangster, God Does Guide Us, p75). How God comes to us is not for us to determine. He has a way of getting in to our consciousness. How we respond is everything. Moses said, “Here I am”. Schweitzer “quietly began his work”. You have to be ready to put yourself at the disposal of Christ. Acknowledge and respond to His Lordship and power. PRAYER THOUGHT Lord, here am I. Use me/send me.
