BY OUR SPECIAL CORRECPONDENT DEC: 18 Abhijit Chakraborty, the dawdling VC,JU, seems to have dragged another nasty controversy by refusing to hand over Certificates and Diplomas to the students on 24th December, the day of Convocation. Such act, seen in its past track record, is unprecedented and triggers off fresh alarms. The Chancellor of JU is of course the esteemed Governor Sri Tripathy who has agreed to hand over D’Lit and other Major Special citations. Against the background, the non-participation of theVC, as declared, is likely to throw mud into the face of the VC himself!!! Academicians have raised voice why the VC has to highlight his agenda of fear that the students might refuse to take Certificates from the hand of VC, already mired in controversy. Mrinal Sen has condemned the VC for his lack of trust on his own students which is a shame to “the core” The poet Shankha Ghosh too is bewildered as to comprehend why an official VC should fear so much before he comes to the bridge!!! However, Abhijit Chakraborty, bolstered up by the Education Minister, said: “I would decide if I would hand over Certificates at the JU Convocation or not. Personally liberty cannot be interfered into.” Right, this the VC’s third fallacy in succession!! As things stand, an unnecessary tension is being created by the VC, the Incumbent of JU, leading to show-down on 24th December. One waits with baited sigh if the VC abides by the rules of the academic institution or tends to defy it!!!!
