THE INTERIOR CASTLE We must detach ourselves from the good works we perform, which, after all, are trifling enough; We must enter into ourselves, not complaining of aridity in prayers, which could indicate want of humility. Let us remember with humility how good are the lives of people who have arrived at the Third Mansion, and aim at perfection which will be proved by works. Not that the Lord needs our good works; but He does need the resoluteness of our will. A great beginning has been made in giving up everything for Gods sake, and if we persevere in detachment and abandonment of everything, we shall attain our object; but on this condition: we must have the humility to realize that we are unprofitable servants, and that our Lord is in no way obliged to grant us His favors.
