THE KATSINA ATTACK IS A MILITARY AND INTELLIGENCE MISTAKE! When the French-led Military troops drove the Mali rebels northward into the desert and mountains, many Malians celebrated by smoking cigarettes on the streets, women went unveiled and some men wore shorts to flout the severe laws the rebels had imposed for month. For some time, I waited in vain to know if there will be a new country for ...the rebels originating from the Northward on the mountains or desert. Meaning, they will find another place. Remember, the Malian rebels are not ordinary youths that rebelled against their parents, these are jihadist and guerrilla fighters that have sacrificed their comfort, lives and everything to their ideology. Their ideology which also rhymed with that of the Sect known as Boko Haram in Nigeria, what made our authorities not to think of controlling our borders at exactly the time when they were chased out of Mali? Incompetence or laziness from the side of intelligence, or sheer wickedness and another means of exploitation from the top military officers incharge of decisions? As if that negligence was not enough to serve us right, the Military went further to allow same stupid and lazy manner of handling the situation again. When the military planned to comb the Sambisa forest, they still allowed a free passage for the insurgents through other parts of the forests, when we all know that these forests are more like the tributaries of rivers which normally feeds the bigger oceans. The unfortunate killing of 69 people in Katsina day before yesterday is due to sheer laziness, if not, a deliberate negligence which create further opportunities for those benefiting from the insecurity crisis. We should not be distracted, let us not believe that it is herdsmen that are attacking villagers. The rebel fighters from Mali and their Nigerian friends will never look more than herdsmen, they will never appear like fisher men or palm-wine tappers, it is the same people fleeing Sambisa and other forests as a result of military offensive attacks in Borno and Yobe. Therefore, same situation is what is happening in places like Benue yet, looming cases of such attacks await the people in those forest areas in Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa even though, Adamawa is already receiving its own share of the attacks. I doubt if the Service Chiefs have no idea of what we are talking about, only that they may prefer to keep silent, as it is known to all that silence is golden. If I may be permitted to distort such English proverb, I will say, the Service Chiefs are enjoying golden opportunity that is rewarding far better than when they were being patriotic, so, there silence must be golden. CORRUPTION IS THE BANE OF OUR PROBLEM IN THIS NATION OF OURS! IF THEY CANNOT PROVIDE ELECTRICITY, ROADS, GOOD EDUCATION, HOW DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO PROVIDE SECURITY?
