THE KING COBRAS OF NIGERIA The king cobra is a unique but deadly snake which feeds on other species of cobra/snake. She aggressively seeks to establish herself as the lord and ultimate dictator of the jungle in the same fashion as the human king cobras of Nigeria aggressively and dubiously climb the ladders of fame and power, drain the blood of fellow Nigerians and unsympathetically feed on the labor and ignorance of others. These human king cobras subvert social institutions, break protocol and live above the laws of the society. The snake king cobra amasses the forest leaves and woods to build comfortable nest where she perch to lay her eggs. Eggs that she would jealously guard and protect with the last drain of her venom even if it means turning the entire jungle into hell and making life unbearable for other creatures. This is the same modus operandi used by the human king cobras of Nigeria. They siphon the resources of the society to build political and economic empires for themselves. When eyebrows are raised in any quarter concerning their ill-gotten wealth, fame and power, the human king cobras employ all sorts of political, economic and religious trickeries to cause confusion and chaos everywhere with the helpless and most often blind masses dancing to the gallery. Amidst the upheaval and looting, they factionalize political parties, grant themselves presidential pardon, amnesty and promise “other species of snakes” that they are always on top of the situation. In the process, many other snakes are left dead or in untold hardship and deep psychological trauma. The question therefore is when would these human king cobras move from the top to the bottom of the situation and put a stop to the mess ravaging the society? Well, from the handwritings on the wall, 2015 promises to be a big showdown among the human king cobras of Nigeria and other species of snake would be forced to pay the price by making a choice between right to life, and right to vote and be voted for. Of course, who wants to be killed in the process of voting? When human king cobras short-change other human king cobras in a dubious contest for power, the supposedly cheated human king cobras threaten fire and brimstone and promise to make the entire jungle ungovernable; presenting themselves as saint and forgetting that they were all part of the dubious process in the first instance. It was just that one outsmarts the other but at the end, innocent species of snakes are made to pay the price dearly. We may pardon the Snake King Cobra because her action is instinctive; same cannot be said for the Human King Cobra of Nigeria because she is “moved into actions not only by passion and desire but by intellect and reasoning” but on a sincere note, the human king cobras of Nigeria have murdered intellect and reasoning on the alter of corruption, primitive accumulation, selfishness, sentiments, religious bigotry to mention but few. Let us cut the grammar short, when key actors fail to or cannot unite to coherently, logically, consistently and explicitly marshal plans to address social problems, society will degenerate into a pathological state. At such point, the system would “naturally address itself” with more grievous consequences of reconstruction, rehabilitation and reintegration afterward. Human king cobras of Nigeria, now is the right time to act selflessly, positively and purposefully to build a better Nigeria. God save and bless Nigeria.
