THE LATEST FROM FORT WORTH..... Cort Scheer Continues Winning Streak at World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® by Johna Cravens for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo FORT WORTH, Texas (Jan. 27, 2014)—Saddle bronc rider Cort Scheer of Elsmere, Neb., had a good visit to Fort Worth last Thursday and he’s been on a winning streak ever since. Scheer, representing the Calgary Stampede Rodeo at the inaugural Fort Worth Super Shootout®, scored 90.5 points to win the $10,000 Shootout championship. He then headed to Denver for the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo where he won the saddle bronc riding championship and an additional $12,111. On Monday night he was back in Fort Worth, competing in the first round of saddle bronc riding at the World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® and making an 81-point ride on Rafter G Rodeo’s Wasp to take the lead by two points. Scheer competes in the second round of saddle bronc riding Tuesday night at Will Rogers Coliseum. Another Shootout cowboy on the Calgary team, Caleb Bennett of Morgan, Utah, scored 81 points in bareback riding Monday night. The ride on Rafter G’s Biscuit put Bennett fourth in the first round. He competes again on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Richie Champion of The Woodlands, Texas, competed in rounds two and three Monday night. He had been scheduled to compete on Sunday, but his competition was deferred to allow him to compete at the championship finals of the Denver rodeo Sunday afternoon. Champion tallied 84 points on Dakota Rodeo’s Ankle Biter to take the lead in the third round of bareback riding. J.B. Lord of Sturgis, S.D., wrestled his steer in 4.7 seconds. That put him in second place in round two and gave him a total of 9.1 seconds to lead the “average” (fastest time on two runs.) Only the top 12 contestants in each event’s average qualify for the February 8 Championship Round at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo®. The rodeo continues Tuesday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. -30-
