THE LIFETIME INVESTMENT “I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You” Psalm 119:11 Memorizing God’s Words, is easy in childhood and young age. Sunday school children have the great privilege of memorizing chapters and portions of Scripture while they participate in various competitions. Childhood memories are like a nail on a green tree! Rev. John Newton, the famous hymn writer and an Anglican pastor, gratefully remembers his mother for storing his memory with many valuable pieces and portions of Scripture, hymns and poems. The recollections of them were of great use to him in his later years. My mother used to conduct monthly Bible Test for us (three daughters). Even now, I can remember how we used to study the prescribed Scripture portion with competitive spirit as our Mom gave a beautiful silk saree as first prize and thus laid a strong foundation and Lifetime Investment of the Living Word. Joseph stored up grain during the years of plenty, to be used during the years of famine that lay ahead. In the same way, we should store up the most precious God’s Words in our hearts, so that we are prepared for the “famine of hearing the Words of the Lord” (Amos 8:11). The parents should show keen interest in giving Bible knowledge to their children. They can be encouraged to memorize Bible verses daily. What an asset it will be for the family, if the children are taught of the Lord! And great will be the peace of our children. Carry the Bible today and it will carry you in the old age. How true it is!
