THE LORDS DAY AT COVENANT FARM: Joy & Comfort in the Bosom of the Family. After a grueling overnight with Annies difficult, sad and disappointing puppy whelping, we all stayed home and could not make it to church. The ones that were not sleeping were taking over the responsibilities. I decided I *definitely* wanted everybody over for Sunday dinner, not in spite of what was going on, but BECAUSE of what was going on. When you go through this kind of emotional upheaval, its easy to get into a funk and stay there, just set up housekeeping in your misery. Its easy to do, and its tempting when you are really low. But there is no profit in that, either for you, or for anyone around you. So, I got myself a glass of Cabernet and started cooking. When the kids started showing up, I was cooking and commiserating. My son hung out with me at the grill, my two daughters-in-law came up and hugged me and loved on me. Soon, my sorrow and sadness faded. Jesse said something smart-alecky that made me laugh. My son-in-law, Nathan made one of his ridiculously poor puns that can only elicit groans, never laughter. I groaned. We ate and talked and laughed and just hung out. Bev & I came upstairs a little before everyone left, just because we are still so wiped out. But it was a great time of refreshment to the soul. There is joy and comfort in the bosom of the family.
