THE LUGBARA PEOPLE They came from Ibo in Nigeria in 1000. Their ancestor was called Gboro who was a Mene. Their name Lugbara was given by whites after a place called Lugbari in Odupi. Clothes were not important in their lives. So they earned themselves a crude name the naked people and were least civilised after the Karamajong. They did not know what to do with soap. Whenever they were given soap, they would instead eat it. The general emblem of all the Lugbara is the Odu (Leopard). Each Lugbara clan has a distinct totem. These include; Ojuruko (termite) - Aringa clan Kulu (grasshopper) - Maracha Au (rooster) - Madi Pala bi (jute) - MIGHTY AYIVU Yekeye (red safari ants ) - Koboko Ago (pumpkin) - Vurra Odro (rat) - Terego. The Lugbara in Congo occupy eight districts which include; Zaki, Adranga, Yuku, Esebi, Ondolia,.............etc. Am very proud to be an ayivu girl and knowing my history makes me feel alive day in and out. We are one.
