THE LUO NATION; A MEGA FACTOR. By Omollo Owuor Ngare. Apa Mwambeo transcribed a very interesting piece not long ago. He said that being Luo is by a direct and divine intervention. He even went ahead and made an apocalyptic proclamation that it is only a Luo who will take this country to the new path that will avail to us the sanity, as a sovereignty, to reconsider Kenyas historical and ethnic miscalculations. It is incontestable, without ifs ands or buts that Luo is no longer an ethnic entity. Luo is a factor; a prodigious and monumental factor that can never be wished away. The contributions The Luo Nation has made to this country cannot be underscored, should never be discounted and will never be blue penciled from Kenyas historical archives. That is why when I watch a propaganda machinery reminiscent of the Nazi fascist movement led by one Mugo Wa Wairimu pour unwarranted scorn on the inhabitants of The Lake Region, I cant help but wonder if history is still taught in our curriculum. The Luo nation is only equipollent and worthy of comparison to the Biblical tribe of Judah. It is indispensable to Kenyas Geo-political landscape. You cannot shut your eyes to The Luo nation. From The White House on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C to my village in Kamagambo, The Luo remains an elemental community. Regime after regime; incumbency after incumbency, have been very keen on politically and economically oppressing and marginalizing the Luos. Why? Because we just cant stomach malfeasance! We are a straightforward lot with our fundamental principles grounded in social justice and equal share of the national cake. It is our pursuit of the culture of magnanimity and meritocracy that has seen many of our gallant sons liquidated. From Tom Mboya, Dr. Robert Ouko to Dr. Crispin Odhiambo Mbai. Yet we have remained stark; ready to take a bullet for what we believe in. We have engineered reforms and liberation; refused to be downtrodden by past and present establishments. We were very vibrant in the fight for multiparty politics; in our institutions of higher learning, Luo student leaders fight tooth and nail to ensure equity. This, unfortunately, has never been acknowledged since independence. When land-grabbers were being awarded MBS and EGH, Old Jaramogi got nothing. Kenyatta rewarded him for his acts of kindness and consideration by reducing him to political irrelevance. You cant expect us to be quiet! Call us primitive; call it heckling; call it whatever you want! But we owe no apology to anyone for our existence or for holding our opinions on anything. The GEMA mafia cannot expect us to be tolerant to them when it is a known fact that they treat us with suspicion and resentment. We have bore the brunt of their repressive instruments of power. The GSU and Police truncheons, bayonets, bullets and torture chambers yet, we have never given up! I have this statement for The JUBILEE online cyber cesspool of urban jungle militia and pro-establishment henchmen: I dont know whether it is a deliberate government policy to perpetuate these hate propaganda but LUOS ARE HERE TO STAY.
