THE MEANING OF CHAOS. Has anyone noticed that, usually at this time of year (particularly when it snows) the U.K media use the word chaos to mean the OPPOSITE of what it really means ? For instance - Snow Chaos (the go-to headline of every local paper whenever it snows) often refers to roads being CLOSED and NOBODY TRAVELLING (as far removed from chaos as is possible). Yesterdays BBC News also used the words chaos in two separate news stories to refer to long queues of people waiting in an orderly fashion for a long time (again, that is the antithesis of chaos). Ive also noticed a recent disturbing tendency of BBC TV journalists to use unnecessary qualifier words (e.g - complete misery) in the manner of Jeremy Kyle guests & bad tabloid reportage. Further evidence of the ongoing abuse of the English language.
